Memberships The San Marcos Historical Society was founded in 1967. It is dedicated to the preservation, protection and presentation of our heritage for the benefit of current and future generations with the hope of encouraging the public to make the past a meaningful part of their modern lives. SMHS maintains an extensive collection of historic photos and early San Marcos settlement history and Native American history. Also family, agriculture, religion, government, performing arts, politics and transportation history along with some early mining information. Your donations in the form of membership and monetary donations support educational programs, and upkeep of the SMHS historical collection. The Society receives no regular funding from the City or the State. As a member of the SMHS, you will help keep our rich history alive and around for future generations.
